  • The ideal time to begin SAT/ACT prep varies for each student, but we generally recommend starting the process during the sophomore year (10th grade) or the summer before junior year (11th grade). Here’s a general guideline:

    • Sophomore Year/Summer Before Junior Year: This allows ample time for students to build a strong foundation, learn test-taking strategies, and take practice tests without the immediate pressure of college applications. It can be particularly beneficial for students aiming for highly competitive scores or those who want to spread out their test preparation.

    • Junior Year: Many students begin focused prep in the fall or winter of their junior year, aligning with when they might take the PSAT/NMSQT (which can serve as a useful diagnostic). This timing often prepares them for a spring SAT/ACT exam.

    • Factors to Consider: We advise considering your child's current academic workload, their baseline scores (from a diagnostic test or PSAT), target scores for their desired colleges, and their overall college application timeline.
